Well, in the book Wicked by Gregory Maguire, there's a little more than 12 years between the time when Elphaba leaves Shiz to the time when she becomes the Witch of the West. The book's divided into 5 sections... section 2 ends right after Elphaba leaves Shiz and goes off on her own to fight the Wizard, and 5 years later section 3 begins. After section 3 ends, about 7 years pass before section 4, and section 4 is where Elphaba goes to Kiamo Ko and gets her broom and so forth... so, 12 years or so. Though everything happens way differently in the musical, and they never really say... so it could very well be around 3 years or so in the musical.

Yeah, u kinda have to take the musical and book as different entirely. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the book. It has so much depth to it, and if you're a person who really likes those deep things embedded in the text, Wicked is really your kinda book (like me!). But the musical is great b/c it gives u that musical "feel good" thing. It is a lot more shallow than the book, but it doesn't make me love it any less. I just take them as seperate entities.

They're not terribly easy to find....dependant on what carrier you use. I used to have "popular" as my default and "for good" for my best friend, but I got a new phone and i can't find them anymore.

Well, then you're not doing your civil duty! The world must know about Wicked! (not that over a million people don't already, lol).
So how are you a wicked fan and your friends don't know about it? I actually had someone called me the 'musical theatre' queen today, lol. My friends can't help but be subjected to my musical theatre world. But then again, I'm a theatre major, so... (the current ringtone: Mamma Mia!)

Actually, I take back what I said earlier... because 7 MORE years pass between sections 4 and 5, so it's really 19 years in the book. =P
Anyway, yeah, I have a little bit of trouble getting people into Wicked. I got Chris into it, which is a start. But, most of my friends aren't at all into musical theater. =\ And the ones that are already like Wicked, lol. I don't think it helps that it's kind of the cliche "gay" broadway musical, or at least people seem to take it as such. =P

I never thought of it as a "gay" musical (though all musicals could probably considered such to one extent or another ) I think it's great how it appeals to everyone. Try getting them to read the novel. That might help.

Well yeah, to a certain extent. =P Not that it's much of a problem for me, I have no straightness to defend. And the only problem with the book Wicked is that it's so dense... not everyone wants to think that much, and some people have a hard time getting into it. (I just finished it for the second time, mwahaha! Now to begin Son of a Witch!)

OMG Son of a Witch is even better. Candle is my idol. And there is one part (and when you get to it, you will know what i'm talking about) that your mouth will jsut drop open and you'll be like 'wtf? how is this possible?' But it makes the story better!

Yeah, I've never read it before... I was going to after Wicked, but schoolwork got in the way, and that was months ago. So then I bought it recently, but I figured I should reread Wicked first. =P It's great rereading it after seeing the musical and coming to this place... I was like "omg! It's Dr. Nikidik! And that's the powder of life!" Plus I hear that Mombi and Tip make a cameo in Son of a Witch. =P I'm excited about "A Lion Among Men", the upcoming third book...

I'm so ready for the third one. I'd like to read the first two again knowing all that I do now. I read Wicked before I saw the musical, and I read SOW afterwards. But i'm sure there's tons and tons I missed b/c I read SOW RIGHT when it came out. I was waiting on it (b/c i've been a Wicked girl from way back). I was still pretty young when I read Wicked. So i'm sure it would mean so much more now.

Tripp and Chris are a couple. Though I did find that comment funny too, but I loved it!
