"Well i'm not everyone." She smiled. "We all have our problems. You may not beleive it, but i'm just as insecure as you are. I just cover mine up with smiles and ruffles. We all have our ways to cope." She hugged Ellie. "So when I act like a total snob, it's just because I'm as scared as your are of what people think of me."

Ellie dried her tears and did something she'd never done before. She gave Claire a hug.
"It's been very hard. I just don't know how to control my powers, but sometimes people think I do things on purpose, and... well, they jump to conclusions."
Ellie wasn't sure what to do. She felt so embarassed. And she wasn't totally sure if she could trust Claire or not.
"What did you mean... you don't think they were wicked...?"

"I mean, i've heard the rumors, and all of that....anyone who could have been a friend of Glinda, couldn't be so bad." Claire smiled. "I know, not many people know they were friends, but...I did say I knew everything I could know about her." Claire giggled a little. "I've studied a lot more about all three of them than most people. They were the three most notable sorcery students to ever come out of Shiz. I may not seem like I study up much, but...I'm a good student. I've studied hard here. I keep appearances, and I make sure to stay as popular as possible...." She shook her head. "What is it about you? I've never talked to anyone like this...." Her eyes faded to the floor. 'I trust her...' she thought, marveling at the very idea.

Ellie laughed. She felt the same way.
"Really? You know everything about them!" Ellie was curious. To be honest, she really didn't know THAT much about her mother and father, and she knew almost nothing about her aunt Nessarose. Her mother especially had always been shrouded in mystery. She knew the basics of course but...
"Tell me... what do you know?" And she added "How did they become Wicked?"

"Well, hun, get ready for a long ride!" She laughed and leaned back against Ellie's bedframe. "They all went to school here. Actually, they stayed in this room. Until Nessa was moved to the room just off this one." She pointed to something that looked like another closet door, but it had a few boards over it. It looked like just something decorative in the room, but Claire had been here long enough to know the rumors. "They don't rent that room out anymore. It's been boarded up ever since the whole 'wicked' thing came out."
"Anyway, Elphaba had this natural ability, a lot like yours. People were kinda scared of her because she did things she didn't mean to with her talents. Her sister had a few of these, too, I think, but not like Elphaba. You know, she could levitate so easily. There's even rumors that she had the book of all spells, the Grimmerie. I mean, people thought she was crazy too because she really fought for Animals, back when the Wizard wanted to just make them animals..." Claire's eyes just lit up as she talked about the stories she had once heard.

"Well anyway, Elphaba learned how to levitate, to make other things levitate, and there's always this fun story that everyone here tells about the time Glinda and Elphaba fell in love with the same boy, some Winki named Fiyero. I think he may have been a prince or something. Anyway, Glinda was engaged to him until he ran away with Elphaba. I think he died though. Died for Elphaba if my memory serves me...." She looked a little sad, as if she had some sort of personal connection to these characters she only knew in stories and dreams.
"Rumor has it that Elphaba and Glinda almost killed each other when Nessarose died. She was the 'wicked' and I use the term loosely, witch of the East. All she was was a tyrant of a ruler in munchkinland. And if that made her wicked, so was the Wizard. And everybody loved him. And for that matter," she leaned in to Ellie, "so is Mombie..."
"But that girl....dorothy...gale, that's right they named a tower after her....dropped her dumb house on Nessarose. It killed her....poor dear....though it's rumored it wasn't an accident, that the witch who used to be in charge, Mombie's mentor, Madame Morrible, actually willed that house to fall on her..." Claire shook her head.

"Wow." Ellie said. She knew most of the story - she didn't know that Glinda had been in love with Fiyero. That was certainly a twist. And it was true, even Elphaba admitted that Nessarose had been a bit of a tyrant. Though she had her reasons.
"Wasn't Fiyero's last name Tigalar?" Ellie asked. "There's another Tigalar here - I met him today, his name's Kye... maybe he knows something about the story."
"Well, we'd better be careful of falling houses then, seeing as Mombie is ten times worse in my book then old Horrible Morrible." Ellie wasn't very good at making jokes. But everyone secretly knew Mombie was the worst headmistress Shiz had ever had.
"How... how did Fiyero die?" Ellie asked. She had never heard this. She just knew he was transformed into a Scarecrow. Nothing more.
"I hear Boq is teaching here now" she added. Boq had recently published a book about being turned into the Tin Man.

A shiver ran down her spine at the mention of Kye. "I have no idea if Kye is any relation to Fiyero, but if Fiyero was half as attractive I don't blame either one of them for falling for him." A grin so wide spread across her face, and she couldn't hide it.

"Fiyero....I think he died defending Elphaba. I think he tried to save her from the Wizard's guards. Something like that. All I know is he died for her. It was sweet..." She sighed. 'I wish someone would die for me...'

"Don't wish that. It might come true. You know the way incantations work" Ellie said. "Just remember what happened to Boq. I know you worship Glinda, but the way she treated Boq was terrible - and it led to his distruction. All because she loved guys fawning over her."
"Didn't Nessarose stay with Madame Morrible? Does that door connect to Mombie's room?"

"It's an in between. There is our room, what used to be Nessa's, then Mombie's. They all connect, but not anymore. Actually, I think her do-girl lives in Nessa's room now, come to think of it. However, there's no need for she and I to have connecting rooms, so hence the boards. Everyone just likes to tell those silly tales..." Claire started to feel a little guilty for repeating them herself, and for wishing someone dead.
"You know I didn't mean when I said...I didn't really wish someone to DIE. I just meant...." she trailed and whispered almost, "I wish someone loved me." There was genuine heartbreak in the sentiment. Sure, her brother loved her, like a brother ought to, and her little sister loved her....but Claire longed for friendship, for romance, for closeness, nearness, trust. Two of her siblings and her parents had never shown any kind of fondness for her, so she'd filled herself up with the adoration of others, but it wasn't what she wanted. She wanted real love.

"I know what you meant" Ellie said with a little smile. "That was just my humor. Sorry, it's not as well developed as my other... talents" Ellie full on burst out into laughter.
"Did they add the connecting doors especially for Nessarose? I can't imagine them needing them before."
Ellie knew exactly what Claire meant. She longed to have someone love her too. But who would ever want someone so... dangerous?

"Yeah, I think so. I don't know EVERYTHING." She giggled.

Ellie sat on the floor. After hanging up her dress she had now put all her belongings away. "So, what do people do for fun around here? How are all the classes?"

"Well, the ozdust ballroom still exists. It's only open at night. Some people sit on the quad between houses and hope someone interesting passes by to talk to....some study, a couple hang out with the professors. They're actually pretty neat."
"But the classes, they're difficult. They're challenging, in a good way, ya know? They keep you on your toes and let you know you're learning. You're never really bored here at Shiz."
