Kay was stunned by how easily this boy accepted what Gayelette was telling him, without checking his facts. In the first place, Glinda hadn't created her. Elphaba and Ellie had - though she was loathe to mention these facts as they would just further implicate their "wickedness" as Gayelette said. Second, if Elphaba really were wicked, what about the Wizard of Oz? And Mombie? And Madame Morrible? What did that make them?

"Yes, that's who I said. He's controversial, I know, but he has helped me so greatly. He's the one who saved me. He heard my cries from jail and rescued me. He's taken such good care of me. I know he can help Kay too. That's why I had to come here. He's really good else-wise why would he have helped me?"

"That's true," Skylar said slowly, drinking in everything Gayelette said unquestioningly, as if under some kind of spell. In fact, it probably wouldn't have mattered what she had told him. His desperation to get back the Darke Artes book had transformed into an odd obsession. He barely noticed the change, however.
"So, where does Ian live?" he asked finally, wondering if there was some kind of obscure hut in the forest or an abandoned citadel somewhere. What sort of places did warlocks live in?

Nessarose smiled inwardly to herself. This was almost too easy. Her access to Gayelette's powers made manipulating this boy a cince, even if Gayelette didn't realize what she was doing. Nessarose could tell that Skylar's connection with the book had changed him; it wouldn't be the first time that a dark, magical artifact such as that proved to have a mind of its own. Skylar had proved to be the perfect tool to bring the book to light... Nessarose had to wonder how much affect she was having on her own, and how much was the book's work alone. It didn't matter to her so long as her plans came to fruition.

"I...I..." she hesitated. "I don't know if he might be angry if I told you. But maybe I could take you with me. Or ask...or something...I just don't want him to be angry. He's working on secret things that I don't even know about." She opened her fist, revealing a small red marble. "I made this before I left. It will take my back there. Take my hand, and it will take you, too."

Skylar took her hand, surprised at how soft and warm it felt. He let out a small smile, and for a moment all thoughts of the book vanished, as if a cloud had parted in his head. After a while the effect vanished, however.
He felt the scene swirl around them, bending and distorting in a whirl of wind. He had never traveled by magic before, but this was something that he could get used to.
