Glinda, in her bright blue ballgown, stood atop a balcony so she could face the crowds. "Citizens of Oz! because there has been much speculation about the recent events I am here to tell you that Oz is indeed safe from all harm. The culmination of this because your great monarch and friend: DOROTHY GALE has returned!"
Glinda waved a hand as a great band began to play. They marched through the masses to form an aisle, followed by a giant, heavily flowered float with Dorothy sitting in a throne on top: with her hair and clothes fixed just like Glinda had planned. She did look regal up there...almost like Ozma, but she wasn't, sadly. If only they knew where Ozma was!

Dorothy sat atop of the big float - it was just as if she'd never left! She thought about the day when the Munchkins had held a celebration in her honor, the day she landed in Oz. So far it seemed so similar - the Witch was back, and she would save the day. How was this helping? She thought about everything Glinda had told her. From the top of her float she said (in a slightly smaller voice than she would have liked)
"Hello! It is so wonderful to be back and see all my old friends!" And then, rallying her courage "I know that together we shall be able to locate Princess Ozma, the rightful ruler of Oz and defeat the Nome King."

Dorothy was doing well. She was proud of her. Nothing united a kingdom like someone to love or someone to hate: a common bond. It was a diversion, and it seemed to be working. Everyone was yelling and screaming, chiming in with "hail Dorothy"s and "down with the Nome King"s. All seemed to be going according to plan

Dorothy always felt odd at these types of things. And where were her friends? The Lion, the Tin Man - especially the Scarecrow! She had missed them so much. Glinda seemed reluctant to talk about it...

Glinda hadn't wanted to tell Dorothy how bad things were. She hadn't wanted to tell her that the Scarecrow was in hiding, and that the Lion and Tin Man were at Shiz trying to fight for what little rights they had left: broken Ozians.

Dorothy wondered what her role would be in all of this. Why did it seem she was always being sent on quests everytime she ended up in Oz?

Claire stood in the crowd, Taye and Ellie at her side. Glinda had sent she and Ellie special invitations, but why? They had gotten the general one that everyone throughout Oz was invited, but they had gotten their own. Claire had dressed herself in her fineiries. The great ballgown and heels were not exactly the most comfortable thing to stand in on the streets of Oz, but she had said to dress their best. There must have been some reason!

Ellie had been running a little late. She hadn't wanted to be seen coming to the Emerald City. Suddenly there was another rumbling. Ellie wasn't hesitating this time. She jumped..no...FLEW! into the middle of the crowd. She heard everyone exclaim "It's her! It's Ellie Baum! The one who was captured by the Wicked Witch! She's escaped! She's ok!" Ellie began waiving her hands and chanting a spell. "She looks so much like Nessarose!" She heard. There was a bright light. The rumbling stopped and standing above ground was a Nome spy. Immediately the guards stepped in and carried him off. The festivation was safe for now. Ellie was tired of pretending. She was going to be good whether people liked it or not.

Well, Glinda had probably wanted her to be descrete. She never could learn to obey rules - besides her powers were too strong. She vanished just as fast as she had come and went to the back stairs. What would Glinda say?

Glinda called out from atop the balcony. "Well, I had planned to go about this a little differently, but with Ellie's public display I shall go ahead now." She waved her hand and both Ellie and Claire floated up above the crowd in bubbles to her balcony. "These two bright sorcery students from Shiz University caught my eye long ago, and I have been watching them mature in their studies. Because of all the confusification that has been going on lately, I have decided the time is now.
"Ellie Baum came to me as an Orphan at a young age. She has always had a fondness for Munchkinland, and one day wishes to reside there and care for the Munchkins with goodness and love. Because of this, on this day, I hereby deem her: Ellie, good witch of the east"
There was an erruption of cheers.
"And Claire Heart, though raised in Gillikin, is the daughter of a glassblower, a quadling. She was blessed with Gilikineese features and social status, but she has that artistic Quadling blood in her viens. For this purpose, I deem her this day, Claire, good witch of the south."
The cheers continued, louder, screams of "Ellie!" and "Claire!" and "Good Witches unite!" filled the air.
"Now with our good friend Miss Dorothy Gale, and the two new Good Witches of Oz, I assure you there has never been a safer place to live. May Oz return to its former glory!" Glinda opened her hand over the masses and glitter exploded over the crowd. What a glorious day it was to live in Oz!

Claire could hardly believe all that had just occurred. She was finally getting all she'd ever dreamed of. Everyone would refer to her as "your goodness" and write "the good" after her name. It seemed too good to be true. But it was real! She was standing atop the highest balcony in the Emerald City as one of the three good witches of Oz: three of the four corners united. Now if only Elphaba could be cleared, and the four corners might be one again...with Ozma at its center would be the icing on the cake. If Ozma were to return to the Emerald City then they each could return to their corner and defend what was rightfully theirs to defend. My what a magical place Oz would be. It would be whole, complete, unified once more. This was the first step

Wow. thought Ellie. She couldn't help thinking about the REAL reason she was the Good Witch of the East - it was because she was the rightful heir to the throne of Munchkinland. Hopefully someday soon that would come to light - as would the truth about her mother. Lets just hope Mombie didn't mess things up. After all - she had been the "prisoner" of Elphaba, and under her control.
Suddenly she thought - she wasn't sure if this was what she wanted. The choice she had been trying to make her whole life had just been made for her. Deep in her heart she knew she couldn't stop fighting for truth, and she made a vow right there to use her role ONLY for true good - even if that meant not being the perfect public figure. She WOULD redeam her mother...
suddenly she heard shouts coming from the crowd "Wicked witch!" They cried! "She was in the power of the Wicked Witch! She's wicked too!" A mob had gathered. Who had started it? Whoever it was - it was oubviously directed at her...

No! Ellie thought. She finally had the power to do the good that she had always wanted to. Please Glinda! Please someone do something!

Oh, and everything had been going so well, or so Glinda had thought.
"How dare you make such blaspehmy!" Glinda screamed nearly. "This poor girl was held prisoner but a few mere hours. She's been through enough without people claiming she is...dare it be said aloud...Wicked! There has never been a child with a more good heart than Ellie. She was raised at MY orphanage, under MY care, and I have examined her since that tramatic event, and I say she is still as good as they day she first came to me. Do you dare venture to say that Glinda THE GOOD would lie about such a thing?"
She was flaming, but she's kept her cool pretty well. She wouldn't stand for this anymore. They called Elphie wicked without just cause, and she had to play along; but they were not doing the same to Ellie. She'd just declared her a 'good witch' for Oz sakes!

Ellie took pause - Glinda had just said, in public that she was held prisoner. That's not the way it had happened. They were trying to clear her mothers name, not help slander it! She wanted to say something. Should she say something?
