If Claire could have seen the Mob member who started that rediculousness she would have gone swinging fists, pink ballgown and all. She'd just gotten her title moments before, but she was willing to loose it to protect her friend. Ellie wasn't Wicked! For that matter, Elphaba wasn't either! But she couldn't say that aloud...but she could tell anyone who ever threatened otherwise that Ellie was good. She was kind and gentle and was a more 'good' person than they would ever be. She deserved the title of 'the good' far more than Claire, and Claire knew it. She had devoted her life to goodness, but not so much for her own sake as for the sake of clearing her mother of any 'wicked' stigma. Did that make her motives any less pure? Claire didn't think so, and it certianly didn't make her anywhere close to 'wicked'

Glinda put a hand on Ellie. She knew the girl wanted to jump out and say 'i wasn't imprisoned,' but it wasn't the place or time yet. If they were still trying to shout 'wicked' for anyone who might have been "captured" by Elphaba, they would certainly dethrone anyone who tried to say she wasn't.
"Soon..." she whispered to Ellie. When the people fell in love with Ellie and knew that no wickedness could come from her...or could have produced her, then they could ease the public into believing in the truth. "Soon."

Ellie stepped forward. Why, oh why was she doing this?
"Fellow Ozians - we are all frightened. We are looking for skapegoats. All the Animals are gone now, where shall we look this time? Should it be the Witch of the West? Or me? Or what about you? For any one of you may be implicated if the timing is right. I was not held prisoner. I was rescued. Elphaba Thropp - the Witch of the West rescued me, and all the students of Shiz from an attack from the Nome people. Wicked or not, neither me, nor Claire would be alive to speak to you now without her. Nor would I have been here to stop that Nome spy just now. Before you accuse people of wickedness, examine your own hearts, and see if there is no spot of guilt there at all. Only then do you have the right to judge others. I do promise you that I will fight to protect Oz with all my strength. And I will always be truthful. That may not be what you like, but it's what is right. We all have the potential for wickedness inside us - and that's what scares us. But we also all have the potential for good. And I promise I will TRULY make good - not just a semblance of it."
The crowd fell silent

Glinda was impressed. Ellie was a little diplomat! In a single blow she'd been able to do more for Elphaba than Glinda had acheived in ten years. She was flabberghasted.

Claire was positively beaming. That was her Ellie! She always knew what to say and how to say it. It was truly a gift. She couldnt have been happier if she'd given that speech herself. She was so proud to be standing next to her best friend, right here, right now. She could only imagine what a half-hearted win it was when Glinda stood here knowing Elphaba should have been right there beside her. Luckily she hadn't had to go through the same torture. She took Ellie's hand and squeezed it.
"Ladies and Gentlemen of Oz. It is my honor and privilidge to be standing here before you. I have worked my whole life to be known as 'Claire, the Good,' but today is just as special for me because my dearest friend is also recieving this honor. We were roommates at Shiz, classmates, friends...good friends," she looked at Ellie a moment and smiled, "best friends. I trust her with my life, and I would encourage each and everyone one of you that you can do the same. We are here to protect the goodness in life and to protect each and every one of you. We may stumble. We may fail, but when we do, I ask that you not condemn us for wicked but instead, embrace us and know that we are doing our very best for each and every one of you.
"So thank you Glinda, and thank you Oz, for this gracious honor. I only hope that I can live up to the expectations set by this splediforous person standing beside me:Glinda, the good. I will try." She gave a small head bow to Glinda, then to the crowd. This was her shining moment, but she wouldn't have done it alone for anything in the world.

From the crowd, Taye beamed up at the two girls. Claire the Good... Ellie the Good... what an eventful day! He had gotten a little nervous when that mob began to form, and was about to go confront whoever had started it... but Ellie managed to fix the situation. He smiled. He was so proud of Claire, and Ellie too. He hoped that this was what they both wanted. For a moment he wondered if this is what it would have been like for Glinda and Elphaba, had the Wizard and Morrible not stood in the way. All that remained was to clear the Witch of the West and make her Elphaba the Good... that future would hopefully be coming soon. And if a ruler could be found, maybe Oz could finally be reunited.

Ellie grabbed Claire's hand, and a bright emerald beam of light shot out of it straight up to the sky. This really was what it would have been like for her mother and Glinda...
Ellie turned her head around. "And no more lying!" she said cheerfully to Glinda.
What would she do now? Take up residance in the governor's mansion? She was sure Mombie would try to think of a way for both of them to return to Shiz to continue their training.

Glinda couldn’t be happier at the way things were turning out. Her two little witches were blossoming beautifully, and it seemed that even those who were skeptics could be swayed by their honest and effective speech. Maybe things would go their way sooner than expected. “Fellow Ozians, as I am sure you wish to greet your newest diplomats of Oz a reception will be held in the throne room to honor Ellie, Claire, and Dorothy. Refreshment will be served, and each and every citizen of Oz will have a chance to speak with these lovely young ladies.”
Glinda motioned for Claire and Ellie to follow and knew she had posted a guard to help Dorothy off the float and bring her inside. Everything was going well. She tiptoed down the back stairwell into the Throne Room where munchkin girls were bustling about setting up green tables full of green cookies and green punch. Green green everywhere!
((action moved to the Throne Room))
