"Well it is, and I should explain. WHen I cast the spell on Fiyero I didn't know it would turn him into a Scarecrow. The exact wording was:
Let his flesh not be torn
Let his blood leave no stain
Though they beat him, let him feel no pain
Let his bones never break
And however they try to destroy him
Let him never die
I went after him because I knew there was no way I could injure him. And if Dorothy thought he was on fire, she'd throw the water... I'm sorry. There are so many things that I wish had never happened."

Suddenly a loud roar filled the air and the echo of voices filled the castle. Claire Heart's voice could be heard, loudly, clearly: "Ellie! Ellie, what are you doing? Ellie don't!" And a loud crash, the shattering of glass and a few shards began to fall into the room.

Elphaba immediately pulled herself and Glinda into a trap door underneath where they had been sitting. Elphie knew all the secret passageways in the castle, and she put them to good use. This was terrible - and terribly out of the ordinary, but hey, better that the girl get scared by a haunted old castle than that she come face to face with the Wicked Witch of the West.

"shhh" said Elphaba. She had heard the girl call out Ellie's name. Either Ellie was there... or else she had cast some spell that had gone awry. She listened carefully for her daughters footsteps, but couldn't hear any.
"What a nosy little girl." Elphaba said. "Well, should we scare her away, or just let her think she's arrived at a haunted castle?"
