"What was that?" She nearly shrieked. "Is someone here? Ellie?" She looked around cautiously. "Please! If someone is here! Please tell me where I am!"

"I hope she didn't try that levitation, or a transportation spell... that girl... What are we going to do about Claire?"

Glinda sighed. She did hate to scare the girl but maybe it was a good suggestion, as good as any she had. "Go ahead..."

Elphie had less of a problem scaring people than Glinda did. Especially after everything she had gone through. She waived her hand and all the doors and windows slammed shut. Elphie heard a scream come from above. She waived her hand over her mouth amplifying the sound and said in her Witchiest voice "Give me my ruby slippers!" Followed by a loud cackle and "I'll get you my pretty!". She waived her hand again restoring her voice to its normal timbre. She quickly heard Claire run out of the house. Elphie waived her hand again and there was suddenly silence. "I sent her back to Shiz" Elphie said. "I've gotten much better at transportation spells. But I still like brooms best" she said with a wink. "I'd stay down here for a bit though, just to make sure the coast is clear..."

Claire felt herself back in her room for a moment and then fall back into the castle. This was getting tiresome. But she was pretty sure she knew who just did that....Elphaba Thropp, the famed "Wicked Witch of the West." Though fear overwhelmed her, there was a peaked curiosity. She'd heard all the rumors...even that Elphaba was dead...but she must not be!
"I know who you are!" She said, rather bravely, even surprising herself. "And I want to meet you!" It was almost commanding. Her courage would be short lived, as soon as she saw the tall green lady her legs might turn to jelly and make her the puddle on the floor. But there were things about the story that had just never added up. Something in her was bound and determined that Elphaba wasn't....all...wicked.

"Well that worked well..." Glinda mused. She couldn't help but giggle a little at the determination of this child. "She feisty! I like her a little more even now." She could tell how agitated Elphaba was, which could be bad for the poor child, but she couldn't help but laugh at her. She wasn't sure if Elphie's spell backfired or if Claire had conjured herself back (or even if Ellie's..whatever she had done..had somehow interfered). It didn't really matter, what mattered was that Claire had declared herself a presence and wasn't going away until Elphie met her face to face. "So...what now madame?"

"This is bad." Elphaba said. Of course there had been rumors that she wasn't dead, but she had to be very careful who she revealed herself to. Of course, who would really believe a flighty young girl who said that she saw Elphaba at Kiamo Ko in the middle of the school year. THe mere fact that she was in the Vinikus when she was supposed to be at Shiz was enough to get the girl expelled. The question was, how far should she go, and how should she relate all this back to Ellie...
"Well, it looks like Fiyero and I will be on the move again..." and with that, she soared on her broom through the trapped door, and landed right at the feet of the young girl. She towered over her. She seemed much more scared than Dorothy Gale had been. Good. After a moment she called out for Chistery who grabbed the girls arms and held her fast.
"You've made a grave mistake my dear. No one interferes with the Wicked Witch of the West!" Her cackle was gone. She was cold as ice.

She held firm, bit her lip, and tried not to cry. This was of course the most terrifying thing she'd ever done in her life. But she'd always known it! She knew she wasn't dead!
"Ok...so I don't know how I got here or where I am or why I'm here.." her voice shook a little, "but I know there must be a reason and" she winced as chistery's claws dug in her back "I come in peace! I swear!" She closed her eyes and prayed that Elphaba Thropp didn't turn her into a puddle.
"I do think you're scary, but I don't think you're wicked. I think you're misunderstood." She said all in one breath, trying to get it out before she killed her.

Glinda was proud of Claire. Maybe the girl had more backbone than she'd given her credit for. If she could...even attempt...to stand up to the 'wicked witch of the west' maybe she could make it as a political figure. "Don't hurt the poor girl..." she whispered under her breath. She understood the precautions Elphie took, but this girl was the final link to uniting Oz perhaps.

Elphaba cackled. Her tone was slightly softer now. "And what makes you think I'm misunderstood?" Elphaba said. Was this a ruse? Or did the girl really have more intelligence then she let on?

"I've heard the stories. I've heard the things you did." She felt a little more at ease, but stil terrified, "The way you tried to save the Animals! They painted you evil, but people just didn't want to see their worth. And you stood up to the Wizard! I mean, anyone who could stand up to the WIzard can't be all bad." She actually smiled for a minute. "and I have made it my life's work to find out anything and everything about Glinda the Good...and she was your friend...and anyone who is her friend can't be wicked..."

Elphaba stared at the girl. "How do you know I'm not just a figment of your imagination?" Said Elphaba. "And if I'm not... I'd be very careful who you share your rather... unpopular opinions with. I'll bet you change your tune fast enough when you're at Shiz. I'll bet you're the most popular girl in school." Elphie added.
She wasn't sure how to reply to the Glinda comment. Though it didn't totally suprise her. Glinda had never claimed she was Elphie's 'best friend' but she had said they had been friends - and when rumors of her reappearance began Glinda was the one to suggest that Elphie might not have such a sinister motive.
