Name: Jack Pumpkinhead
Specied Pumpkin-headed Man
Birthdate: He technically was never born...
Age: Newly-created (a day or two)
Year at Shiz/Year Graduated (if attended Shiz) n/a
Major/House at Shiz Does not attend, though he stays with Kay Tip in her room in Glinda Tower.
Birthplace: Mombi's Private Residence
Allegience Kay Tippetarius
Appearance: Jack was created by Kay Tip as a doll, so he is therefore very small, only about a foot tall. His head is a fist-sized pumpkin, in which is carved two round eyes, a three-cornered nose, and a mouth shaped like a new moon. The face cannot be considered strictly beautiful, but is instead very jolly-looking. His body is made from straight brown twigs and scraps of bark. Kay dressed him with an assortment of old dolls' clothes, so Jack wears a red shirt and pink waistcoat and purple trousers, as well as patched and worn shoes.
Picture:
Sexual Orientation None
Background History:
There really isn't much to Jack Pumpkinhead's background. Kay managed to acquire a small, fist-sized pumpkin, and with it she set out to create a doll of her very own. A couple of weeks later, a student at Shiz convinced Kay to go through Headmistress Mombi's magical medicine cabinet, where she found the Powder of Life. When she set about to test it out, she decided to use her pumpkin doll (which she had named Jack Pumpkinhead) as a test dummy. Sure enough, Jack came to life. Jack lives in an old dollhouse that Kay keeps in her room. He tries not to draw too much attention to himself, as Kay has explained that she would get in trouble.
Personality Traits/Flaws:
Jack is new to Oz, and was created without any sort of childhood, so he does not have a lot of experience with things. He has an open mind, and tends to ask a lot of questions in order to gain new knowledge about the world. He doesn't have much experience with ozian nature, so he is exceptionally gullible and trusting, believing everything he is told unless told otherwise by Kay. His ultimate authority is Kay, who created him, and he considers her a sort of mother and is therefore very obedient to her. He gets confused very easily, and has trouble understanding things like homonyms and sarcasm. He is very jolly and cheerful the majority of the time, but can be grave as well. Like certain scarecrows and tin men, he does not have to eat or sleep, nor does he ever tire. His wooden legs can be worn out, however.
Intrests/Hobbies He is actually very patient and does not need occupation like most of us do. If anything, he enjoys learning things about the world. He cannot read, but enjoys being told stories. Kay sometimes reads to him, but she must do so very quietly so that Mombi will not catch her with a book.
Likes Discovering new things, looking out Kay's window, being read to, Kay, anyone Kay likes
Dislikes Mombi, anyone Kay dislikes, heat (it makes his head smell), seeing people eat pumpkins, being confused
Greatest Fear: Being discovered by Mombi, because then she would both destroy him and punish Kay.
Strengths Sympathetic, caring, open-minded, doesn't have physical weaknesses, small (can fit in small places!)
Weaknesses Easily destroyed, his head can rot if he's not careful, his wooden legs can wear out, clumsy, gullible
Best Memory Being created
Worst Memory The times when he can overhear Mombi's abuse of Kay from the next room, and feeling powerless to help.
Goals: None, really; Jack mostly lives day-to-day. If anything, he hopes to become very wise from all of the things he learns.
Writing Sample
Jack sat patiently inside the dusty dollhouse that his mother had provided for him. Kay was off cleaning the restrooms; Jack wished he could do something to help her out, but at a foot tall there wasn't much he could do to help. He tried very hard to frown in discontent at the thought; but as his mouth was permanently carved in the shape of a jagged jolly smile, he couldn't do so. Standing up with a creak of his wooden joints, he clumsily walked over to the small dollhouse window. Kay had positioned the dollhouse so that the open back faced the rest of her room (so that she could easily converse with Jack), and the front of the dollhouse faced the lone window in Kay's small room. That way, when Jack looked out the dollhouse windows, he could see outside. He greatly enjoyed taking in the outside world; Shiz university, as well as the grassy fields beyond. What he wouldn't give to see it all... but for now, he was perfectly happy with the company of his creator and mother, Kay.
