"I know. I know it's not!" She was upset, frusterated. "I don't even know you you must feel. I'm just her friend. You're her mother..." That word seemed to mean more these days. "He probably won't find her, but I hope he finds something that will help us find her if he doesn't."

"Shhh" Elphaba said. She didn't know how - but somehow, after all she'd gone through, she seemed to be the best one at keeping a level head when these types of things happened. "Now, you know Polly and Mombie better than I do. What do you think they want from Ellie?"

"Polly doesn't wany anything from her. From what I've seen and what Glinda's not said, Polly seems to think that she and Ellie are best buddies...which they never were. So all she wants is her back at shiz 'safe and sound.' By Mombi...she never liked Ellie. She was a threat. She knew that girl had too strong of a spirit to break and mend to her liking. She was afraid of her natural ability, and unhappy with the fact that Ellie had an open friendship with Kay. She was always very particular about Kay..."

"But that's not reason enough to kidnap her. There's already enough she could use as evidance to declare her a wicked witch - but she went out of her way to talk about how good she is... it just doesn't quite make sense."

"I don't know. She has to know something...something that could have gotten them in trouble. Maybe they thought they could sway her with all of that 'good' stuff. Either they know more than they're letting on, or Ellie knew something she wasn't telling us. I was actually getting ready to get see her when...I got the message..." Claire shook her head. She had a secret to tell Ellie, and she felt like that Ellie might have opened up to her about whatever she knew.

"Well whatever she knew, she must have only just found out - otherwise she would have told us - and she had just seen you, and Ian..."

"Not that long ago, yes." She'd tried to make a habit of visiting Ellie as much as she could, especially with the convenience of the key.

"Claire, is there anything...anything at all that I should know?"

"About Ellie? No. She was fine the last time I saw her. We were still looking for Ozma clues. We hadn't found much of anything. I'd finally found one negative thing about her father that I was going to bring to Ellie. I didn't know if it was worth anything, but it was during the drought right before her disappearance and it seemed to point to the dissatisfaction of all in Oz...but it didn't specifically say anything about Ozma herself. It was the best I'd uncovered. I was going to take it to her this afternoon..."

"No... not just about Ellie...anything in general?"

"No..." she kind of half smiled. Did she know something was wrong?

"It just seemed like something was bothering you. I'm usually good at telling those types of things."

A lump rose up in her throat. She felt like she was going to throw up. She placed a hand over her mouth gagging a little. "Bathroom?" she mumbled behind her hand.

Elphaba in an odd display of motherly affection grabbed the girl and rushed her to the bathroom. It was rather primative, but it had everything necessairy... "It's ok, it's ok" Elphaba brought Claire a glass of water.

"Thanks." She gulped it down. She wasn't quite sure if the confrontation had set it off or maybe it was just because she hadn't in two days. She'd thrown up for almost two weeks straight except yesterday. She hated it. She hated everything about everything that was going on.
