Claire coughed coming out of the dusty passageway. "Elphaba!" she called out, not really bothering to dust herself off, "Elphaba! I need you! Where's Ellie?"

Elphaba had just received news about Ellie herself - Chistery had told her. This was worse than she'd feared, but it made sense. Of course the Nome King would go after Ellie first. It was... brilliant. But Elphie was livid - she was about to blow all of Oz to pieces. Maybe no good deed DID go unpunished...
"Claire?" Elphie pulled Claire into the castle. Well, it was a good thing they had given her a key after all. Not waisting any time she said "Ellie's been captured by the Nome King."

"It's what I figured, but I thought I'd come here first..." Claire heart dropped. She'd been afraid this would happen. This was dangerous! Poor Ellie. She wondered if she'd be next. She placed a protective hand on her stomach, not really thinking, but quickly put it down, selfconsciously. "What can we do?"

"There's nothing we can do at the moment." Elphaba said. This was sort of ... ironic... her being this friendly with Claire. Especially after the last time they had been alone together. But she had had to test her...
"We have to think this through. There's a lot more at stake here than Ellie being kidnapped - everything you, I, and Glinda do will be under serious scrutiny. I'm sure this was all well thought out - they have a plan." Elphie said. "If only we knew exactly where the Nome King's palace WAS. I've been trying to find it for months - the only person who could have helped us is that wretched Polly girl!"

"Yeah..." Claire sighed. She'd tried to contact Glinda, but had been informed she had 'gone to Shiz.' Claire wondered if Elphaba knew. "I think Glinda went to see her, Polly, I mean. I tried to contact her before coming here and she had 'gone to Shiz.'" Claire was a little worried. Glinda loved Ellie like a daughter, and she might have jumped into something in the heat of the moment she would later regret. Then again, maybe not. Claire hoped it was the latter.

"My next move was Taye and Ian. Polly won't tell me anything, I know. And if Glinda's already antagonizing her, she may have more of a shot than I do. Ian was visiting with Ellie when it happened, so maybe he knows something..."

"He was visiting WHEN it happened?" Elphaba turned. "Listen Claire - and this is very important - was anyone else with Ellie? Look, the Nome King is huge - and made of stone. He couldn't just waltz into Munchkinland unnoticed. Don't get me wrong, it must have been him who kidnapped her - Ellie could certainly handle any of his spies, but it means he must have been in disguise. He has the ruby slippers, and a magic belt. We have to figure out who he was..."

About the time Claire got it out of her mouth a note floated into the room in a bubble. when it reached Elphie's hands, it popped. It read:
"Dear Elphie,
My deepest sympathies in all that is going on. I know you're hurting as much as I am right now. After storming to Shiz, I have discovered that Polly is far more gone than I even thought. Mombi has completely poisoned the girl against us and has convinced her that I am under some sort of spell of yours and that YOU are working for the Nome King. She seems to also be under the delusion that she and Ellie were once best friends and that Ellie has been 'taken' from her. She thinks she is doing what is right and good and even thinks her father is supporting her cohorting with Mombi (which we both know he is not).
She also believes that I kidnapped her at the Ozdust Ballroom and that she never had any desire to join the fellowship. However, the most important thing I found out is that Mombie is keeping her in the dark. She knows nothing about Ellie's whereabouts. So I am off to Munchkinland to visit the room she vanished from and Ian, who is said to have been in the room at the time of the kidnapping. I fear that Roquat must have invaded his body in order to gain Ellie's trust and then kidnapp her.
The other thing I fear is that Ellie knows something she hasn't told us. He doesn't usually jeapordize his risk of being seen for nothing. Perhaps she has found a clue to Ozma. Or perhaps he knows about you. I cannot say for sure.
Finally, I am curious to know who this new Yorq Yiggle is that will be taking Ellie's position. I've never heard of him, and as far as I am concerned he has no right to take her position. I have not given any go ahead for a replacement, but Mombi seems to have somehow taken that into her own hands. That is yet another mystery I wish to uncover on my visit.

Elphaba passed the note to Claire. "So that's it. The Nome King can invade the bodies of others now" she said - her voice full of wrath. "Listen to me Claire" she said in all earnestness. "Don't think about Polly for one more second. It's horrific, I know but the stupid girl is merely a mouth piece for Mombie - she doesn't pose any threat of her own. THINK! Where would they be keeping Ellie?"

"Well, Ellie and I discussed one time where he could possibly be hiding. The only suggestion I could come up with was the emerald mines. I mean, he's very possesive of them. But then again, that would be so simple! He's too smart to be where we would expect him...Mombi knows. She may be our best route to finding him. But first we have to figure out how to get to her..."

The Emerald Mines - that's exactly where Fiyero had gone to look... oh now. It was probably time to tell Claire...
"Claire, I need to tell you something - and I must swear you to secrecy, even to Ian and Taye. I won't put a silence spell on you since, in the future, if things don't go as planned, you may have to tell someone, but unless all hope is lost I must ask you to refrain.
Fiyero Tigalar is alive. He was transformed into the Scarecrow when I tried to save his life after he was captured by the Wizard's guards. Fortunately, they never caught on, and the transformation was gradual - so they didn't figure it out. As you know, as the Scarecrow, he was ruling Oz until recently - he left to protect himself, and in the hopes that Glinda would take over. He's been searching near the Emerald Mines, but I haven't heard anything. I think he's on his way back now. Glinda and I are the only ones in Oz who know. His safety and power lie in no one knowing who he really is...we must keep it that way."

Claire was shocked to say the least. She was speechless, really. "I...I...I promise not to say a word. I can't believe..." She was tongue tied, completely unsure of how to say what, "I hope he finds her..." There were tears in her eyes. She was scared for Ellie. 'If anyone hurts her, I swear I will make it my personal responsibility to hurt them back'

Just not out of revenge - never that I don't think Fiyero will find her - he's probably on his way back already. But he may have some information..."
