"True...but it could happen. Be optimistic. It gets your father."

Ellie smiled. "But there's so much to loose if you fail..."
"What do you want to do when you graduate?"

"I'd always thought I'd like to go into Politics, right the word's wrongs, be a 'Good Witch' like Glinda. But really? Who knows. I guess i'll see where it takes me."

"Don't you have to be more certain than that? I mean, you can't just let fate happen to you..."

'Sure you can! Fate's fate! It will happen whether you do anything or not. That's why it's fate."

((whoops!))
"I"m sorry..." she sighed. "Did you know your parents?"

Ellie hesitated. She had gotten used to telling the "story" by now, but it always made her feel, unjustifiably she knew, like she was betraying her mother and father.
"N..no" she began. "I don't even know if I'm Gillikineese, Winki, or Quaddling. Though, there seems to be some agreement that I'm not a native Munchkin." Ah, the irony! "Glinda found me and raised me. She's like the only mother I've ever known..." Oh why wasn't this less complicated! If only she didn't bear such a striking resemblance to her mother and aunt, this would be a lot easier. Fewer questions. Why hadn't more of her father rubbed off on her? At least the traits that made him magically popular?

"Well, let's see.." Claire circled her, "Your face isn't quite round enough to be Quaddling...at least not fully...and you're a little pale to be fully Winki. Though i've never seen a Gilikineese with that hair." she bit her lip. "You are quite a puzzle, my dear! But a pretty puzzle..." she smiled and shook her head. "You may not be short enough to be a Munchkin, but you do look like a few Munchkin rulers once..."

Ellie's face became grim. "Can we please not go there..." she said.

"C'mon! It's not that bad! They were pretty girls...I mean except one of them was green and one was crippled...but looking past those two small details...oh and that whole 'wicked' thing...but not everyone believes it..." she shrugged, smiling.

"It's exactly that whole "wicked" thing. Why can't I remind people of Glinda? Or the Tigalar? Or someone, popular, and not wicked?"
That was partly true. No one ever seemed to see the Tigalar in her. Maybe she shouldn't have mentioned him, but it seemed so harmless.

"Well you're not exactly the spitting image of them," she laughed. "I mean, you are in some ways associated with Glinda...she's a sort of mother to you, but still. Not to say that Glinda and Fiyero Tigalar didn't have their own vices. It's rumored there was a tete te' between him and a green someone," she smiled in a gossipy tone. "Even stole him from Glinda, ending their engagement. It was even assumed they might have stayed together had she not melted..." she sighed. "If she did melt, which I'm not convinced of." she shook her head. "But i'm almost alone in that suspicion. Also with my suspicion she wasn't so much wicked as feared for being different....talented. And it's not as if Glinda, popuar as she was, wasn't a snooty b!itch in her own right. There's good and bad to everyone. You read and study enough...people and books...and you'll find that out."

"Yeah, but not everyone takes the time to look beneath the surface, like you."

"Well a lot of people don't take the time or have the intelligence. They just see the surface, and they don't try to see more. Unfortunately, when I look past the surface, people don't always like it."
