"Hence why he is hush hush in my family. And you can call her Nessarose if you want around me. No judgment."

"I don't...really know how I feel about her..." said Ellie. She knew her mother was good, but she had always been rather conflicted about Nessarose. But did this mean...Claire was her step cousin...

"Well, neither do I. I mean she did a lot of bad stuff...at least that's how it's recorded. But no one really knows except her...so I don't have the right to judge that."

"No... but look at the evidence Claire, she destroyed countless lives. That can't be ok."

"Yeah, I mean...you're right. I'm not discounting that...i'm just saying I always think there's more to the story than anyone ever looks at. I mean Glinda the gppd couldn't have been so close to a family who was just the polar opposite for no particular reason. I think a lot of life is choices we make, good and bad, and some of it just what fate deals us. My mom chose to marry my dad despite his family's shaky history and non-Gilikin heritage, but fate brought them together in the first place. Most quaddlings don't wander far out of the south, and I promise that most Gilikineese girls don't give them a second look. Likewise, I have to believe two wealthy girls who were the daughters of Munchkinland government weren't born with some sort of mutated, evil gene that predisposed them to be wicked and nothing else. That's an ignorant assumption."

"You're in the wrong profession Claire. You should have been a poet" Ellie said with a smile.

"Hah! You're funny. Nah, i've tried to be eloquent enough for politics. Wanna follow in my idol's footsteps. When magic and politics marry for good."

"Well, your eloquance certainly couldn't hurt."

"I'm glad you approve," she laughed. "You're so lucky...having been raised by her..."

"Yeah, but not much of it rubbed off." Ellie sighed. "I love Glinda very much. But I wish, sometimes, I could have been raised by my REAL mother."

"No, of course I don't. But as much as Glinda loves me, I'll always still, to some extent be a charity case. She can't truly love me like I was her own daughter."

"I suppose...but as she has no children...you're the closest she's got or...if she doesn't act soon, will ever get..."

"But you don't know that...Hey, she loves you. I'm not sure my mom loves me all the time. She loves controlling me..."
