"The one and only!" She said, striking a sort of 'tada' pose.
Claire couldn’t help but cozy up to this new-found hunk. Sure, she’d heard his name around, but no one had ever told her he was in the Kye Tigalar category of gorgeousness! Those eyes, that hair, those lips! Claire had always gotten herself into a bit of trouble with boys. She couldn’t help herself, they were so temptefying! She swished her dress with her hips a little and tossed her hair over her shoulder, nonchalantly asking, “You wanna dance?” as if it meant nothing to her in the world whether he said ‘yes’ or ‘no’ when in fact if he turned her down she would feel as though she had lost her touch and be utterly crushed for at least half an hour. Claire always bounced back easily. However, she did not take kindly to rejection.

"I am already working on Kay. And yes, if you would embrace that inner swankification you will indeed be just fine. You looked just fine when I came to see you...before you noticed me. I didnt really mean for you to notice me. I just wanted to be able to check on you and make sure you were learning how to socialize. It's a very big part of your education here at Shiz."

"Er..." He glanced in Ellie's direction. He'd wanted to ask her, but... well, she had already turned him down once. Who was to say she even wanted to dance with him now that she was actually here? He looked back at Claire and flashed her a smile, holding out his arm for her to take.
"Certainly. I'd be delighted."

She beamed, took his arm and let him lead her out on to the floor. "So, I know you're not studying sorcery because I've never seen you around. What is your major?" She figured she'd small talk as they danced. It was polite to get to know those you spend even minimal amounts of time with. Plus, he was cute!
It seemed like ages since she'd danced, but she picked it right back up as if she had never missed a day. Nothing felt quite as riveting or was more of an emotional release for Claire than dancing. She could remember as a child she and her brother dancing together pretending they were king and queen at some big ball. Of course, when she'd gotten to Shiz (both being who she was--her family was well known--and her natural popularity that simply exuded from every inch of her body) she had become that queen. She couldn't remember in her years here one single boy who had turned her down. Then again, none of them had ever wanted to do much more than dance.
She saw his eyes wander to Ellie. What was it that Ellie had she didn't? She was blonde, blue eyed, fair skinned, beautiful, well proportioned, popular, and smart! She was the top of her class. Came from a great family. She had EVERYTHING going for her...except love.

"Ok said Ellie. I'll do my best" and with that she glided back onto the dance floor. She was happy to see that Claire and Taye were dancing. They looked... well perfect together.
Ellie started swaying to the music. She had always been lithe and elegant. Something she'd gotten from her mothers beautiful spell casting ability. She started to dance in her own world, not noticing the looks of everyone around her. The lights began to flicker and glow in a way that they could never do on their own. Ellie was odd. Different. Unique. And somehow, for the moment, it worked!

Claire noticed the mood light and glanced over to Ellie who was dancing alone. Her heart melted. She was dancing with one of the cutest boys in the room, but somehow it all felt wrong. "Excuse me." She said breaking away for a moment.
"C'mon Ellie. Come dance with us!" She grabbed her best friend by the hand and pulled her back to Taye. "Mind if we add one more?" She smiled, more gently, more genuinely this time, making a small circle: she, Ellie, and Taye. Maybe it wouldn't get her a boyfriend, but she hoped it would put a smile on Ellie's face. And that was worth more than any boy could ever be.

Glinda watched the display and a tear rolled down her cheek (which she quickly wiped away). Claire had a good heart, but would her goodness succeed in the end? She fondly remembered she and Elphie at the Ozdust: Elphie awkwardly dancing and herself trying to turn it into the latest craze to make Elphie feel better. Her heart had been good, too. Power is a deadly corrupter, though. Which is why she wanted to test Ellie and Claire so badly. If given a little power, would it change them for worse or for good?

"I'm majoring in Political Science," Taye said as they danced. "I hope to have some kind of influence in our government when I'm a bit more experienced." He was good at dancing; very good, actually. His parents, hoping that he would meet some young blueblood socialite, had paid for him to take dancing lessons since he was young, and he had picked it up quickly.
He nodded as Claire broke away, bringing Ellie back with her. He smiled; not one of his flashy, charming smiles, but a warmer, more genuine smile.
"Of course not. The more the merrier!"

Kay pushed through the crowd; at some point, she had managed to lose Ellie and Claire. She was growing worried; the students of Shiz towered over her, and she didn't know where to find her friends. Other than Jack (who was small-sized and hiding in her pocket) she was all alone, figuratively speaking.
"Ellie? Claire? Where are you?"
As she pushed through the people, she suddenly found herself in the middle of a circle of people.
"S...Sorry..." she stammered quietly; but as she looked up, she realized that the circle was composed of Ellie, Claire, and the boy she had met earlier. "Oh! There you are! I got lost!"

"Hi Kay!" Claire smiled. "I'm glad to see you out and about. Are you having a good time?"

"Yes, I am!" Kay said, positively beaming, though she was a bit flushed from pushing through the crowd. "I've never been to a party before! It's so big, and grand, and... and... swankified!" she said, unable to think of anything other than the Ozdust's signature slogan. It certainly was a fitting term. She smiled up at the two girls. "You and Ellie both look so pretty! Like queens or something..."

"You look fairly pretty yourself," Taye said, giving the young girl a wink. She was a lot more spirited than he had thought... perhaps always being ordered around by Mombi and students alike had made her retreat into the shell he was used to seeing. He was glad that Ellie and Claire were opening themselves up to Kay, though it might have been a bit risky to defy Mombi. "Care to join us?"

"Aww...so do you, Kay." She was a very pretty young girl. She was very young but at the same time, she seemed much older than she really was. Perhaps it was because she had spent so many years with Mombie...doing her every whim. She was such a sweet girl, and Claire just felt this strange connection to her. Why was everyone effecting her so much these days?

Claire looked from Ellie to Taye. The way he looked at her when she came into the circle. Was there some sort of attraction there? She didn't know whether to be excited for Ellie or a little disappointed for herself. Well, if she couldn't have him, then she supposed she'd just have to help Ellie out instead... If only she could find out of Ellie actually wanted him or not...
"So, Taye. You said you're interested in politics? I am a little too. I think Ellie is, too. We visited the Emerald City recently to visit Glinda the Good. I would like to become much like her, a good witch to help with the absense of good political influences."

"You've been to the Emerald City?" Taye asked, looking from Claire to Ellie. "That's where I've lived all of my life. Glinda is a good person to aspire to be like... I've never met her personally, though my parents have taken me to one or two of her balls. I hear that's she's very nice. And good, of course." He smirked at Ellie, remembering their political conversation. She had said that she wanted to be like Glinda too, didn't she? Without comprimising anything... what did she mean by that? Taye had the feeling that there was more to her than she let on.
