Dancing Through Life - OPEN TO ALL!

[Please note: I am starting this thread just to give a description for everyone RPing. This is not Elphaba speaking.]

The Ozdust was ablaze with shimmering light. All the students had now arrived at Shiz, and they were going to make the most of their first night out on the town. The place was packed. Everyone was dressed to the nines and on the dance floor. A tall staircase lead to the balcony, and entrance. A side door lead out to the boutique - the most swankified place in all of Oz to shop (well, outside of the upper Uplands.)

[Ellie Baum]

Ellie stood at the top of the stairs in the Ozdust Ballroom. This was the first time she had ever been here. It really was... swankified. She hadn't wanted to come. She would just stand out, and make a spectacle of herself. But recently, she had begun thinking about her father. Who knew, maybe some of his "swankifiedness" had rubbed off in addition to her mother. After all, wasn't he the most popular student at Shiz in his day? Who knew. Maybe the Tigalar genes would help erase some of the... well... Thropp genes. Not that she didn't love her mother - she did. She was very much like her, and she was proud of it. But when it came to socializing, well, maybe looking to her father was a good thing.

She had used magic to make one of her Shiz uniforms a little more... appropriate, so now she was wearing a simple lovely white evening frock. She hoped that she had made the right decision in coming...

"You'll be fine," Kay said quietly from behind her, although if truth be told she was feeling rather nervous. Ellie had convinced her to come, and then she herself had an even harder time convincing Ellie to come. She had to be brave, if only for Ellie. And anyway, maybe this would be fun. She had never been to a party before... what if it turned out to be an experience she enjoyed?

[Ellie Baum]

"Well, lets do this!" Said Ellie as she started to make her way down the stairs.

[Taye Keats]

Taye stood near a group of his friends, laughing about Professor Quaggle's most recent vulgar slip of the tongue. He loved parties; the excitement in the air, the carefree socializing, the endless dancing. The first dance of the year was always fairly entertaining... many of the people were the incoming freshman, most of which had no clue what to do at a party of this magnitude or swankifiedness. One would think that Taye would have been in the same position the year before; but Taye knew exactly what to do at parties like this, even as a freshman. He was born and raised in the Emerald City, after all. Partying and clubbing were skills he had learned growing up.

He took a sip from his punch and rolled his eyes; lemons and melons and pears, as usual. Didn't the Ozdust staff ever change the recipe? He glanced over at the corner of the room; Kye Tigalar was there, flirting with three girls at once. Sweet Oz... even Taye wasn't that bad. Taye continued to look over the room, until his eyes fell on the stairway leading in. He smiled, then quickly began to make his way through the crowd.

"Well, if it isn't Ellie Baum," he said with a grin. He couldn't say that he knew she would come... after all, there was a very plausible chance that she wouldn't. But still, he was happy that she had. "I see you changed your mind. To whom do I owe this pleasure?"

[Ellie Baum]

"You can thank Kay here" said Ellie motioning to her young friend. "And if anyone breathes a word of this to Mombie , well... as you know my powers can't be controled" she said with a laugh.

[Taye Keats]

"Taye Keats," he said, shaking the young girl's hand with a smile. He had seen her around campus; most people were too afraid of Mombi to ever talk to her servant girl. Why was he not surprised to find that Ellie had befriended her? "I wouldn't breathe a word of this to Mombi."

He looked around the room for a moment; he hoped the huge crowd of people dancing wouldn't intimidate her.

"So... what do you two think of your first trip to the Ozdust Ballroom?"

Kay took Taye's hand shyly. He was so handsome... she knew that Taye was already one of the most popular boys at Shiz, and this was only his second year. And Ellie even knew him... it was a wonder that with all this attention, Ellie was still single.

At Taye's question, she took another look around the place. "It's... it's absolutely amazifying. Like a dream come true..."

[Ellie Baum]

"It's beautiful" Ellie said, honestly overwhelmed by the beauty all around her.

[Claire Heart]

Claire arrived, fashionably late as usual. Kay had come to take Ellie before she had finished twirling and curling her blonde locks. Her pink fluffy dress could be seen from a mile away, but that's the way she liked it. She saw Ellie talking to a rather handsome young man and was surprised, yet thrillified! She immediately dashed down the stairs in her three inch heels and sashayed her way over to the little group. She flashed her signiture smile and gave a wink to Ellie, proud of her boldness.

"Hi, I'm Claire, Claire Heart, Ellie's roommate...and you are?"

[Glinda Upland]

Glinda watched secretly from a far secluded corner, thinking back on her days in the Ozdust Ballroom with Elphie and Fiyero...Boq and Nessa...they had been good times. She missed them. She wished her winking could get her back for just a moment to her freshman year at Shiz, dancing through life as she had never been able to do since. LIfe was complicated now. Life was difficult....but before her was hope: Claire and Ellie. They both looked so happy, especially Ellie, happier than she perhaps had ever seen Ellie. Sure, she was a little uncomfortable, but she had stepped out of her shell. My what a difference it had made! It was hard to believe that beautiful grown woman socializing at the Ozdust Ballroom before her was that pretty little girl who she'd rocked to sleep so many times. It made her heart break just a little even though she knew it was all for the best. It was better than best...yet she felt almost as though she were loosing the closest thing she ever had....ever world have...to a daughter.

[Taye Keats]

Taye took Claire's hand and nodded, smiling back. Of course he knew who Claire was, everyone did. He hadn't quite reached her level of popularity, but he was getting there.

"Taye Keats. It's a pleasure to meet you."

[Claire Heart]

"I've heard of you." That smile never faded. She knew she'd be good in politics because she could keep that million dollar smile for hours and hours. "A pleasure to finally meet." She curtsied a little. "Enjoying yourself?"

[Ellie Baum]

Ellie noticed something out of the corner of her eye. COuld that be... Glinda? She was a little confusified, a little angry, and actually very excited! Just the person she had been wanting to talk to.

"Um.. would you excuse me for a moment" Ellie said to Taye. Claire could keep him occupied. Besides, she still wasn't totally sure how she felt about him. Ellie rushed over to Glinda's secret corner, and dissapeared into the shadows.

"Glinda! WHat are you doing here? When I need you you're never around, and then when I don't.... oh who am I kidding I do need you! This all feels so weird! But, earlier today I started thinking about what you've told me about my father. Maybe it's time for me to try embracing my Tigalar side a bit. Who know, maybe some swankifiedness was passed down. Couldn't hurt!" She said.

"Anyways, I wanted to talk to you about Kay. Mombie's been keeping her as a servant since she was very young - she has not idea who her parents are. I thought maybe you might be able to figure it out..."

[Taye Keats]

Taye nodded, watching Ellie as she left. Where was she running off to so quickly? Hopefully she wasn't bailing out... but no, she actually seemed to be enjoying herself. He smiled, then turned back to Claire.

"So, uh... you're a fourth year, right? I've heard plenty about you. Mombi's star sorcery student, correct?"
