"If we could only find her, she is so powerful that she could stop the Nome King, Mombie, and a thousand other opposers with one finger. She holds all the magic of Oz inside of her, even the magic that the Nome King and Mombie possess. Even the magic I possess. No one knows if she is even alive anymore. If she were and had grown up in a normal fashion she would be older than I am. She was captured when I was still young. But there have been speculations that her age was frozen...that she is still a child. Some claim she was changed to a boy, or a stone, or an Animal...No one really knows."

"I didn't realize Fiyero published this. It must have been around the time of the Engagement ball..." she stopped herself. THat was when he was still with Glinda. "And you know he died..." Elphie said with a tear in her voice. Wink wink Glinda! Don't let THAT one slip out!
"Well we need to figure this out soon. In the meantime Glinda - organize a celebration to welcome Dorothy back. The more distraction, the better! And for Oz sake, keep Kay out of sight!"

"But it's not safe to be here anylonger. I fear that perhaps Polly isn't as convinced as I hoped she'd be..." She looked at Elphie. "I don't think anyone knows where your castle is, so you and Ellie should be safe to return there. But Kay, and Dorothy, you can't stay here..." Then a thought crossed her mind. "Wait! You can live at my orphanage. I don't think they would think to look for you both there. I can come and visit you without question every day. I'm sorry to treat you this way, but..." She waved her hand and the two girls were now dressed in rags. "you have to look the part." Their faces were a bit dirty, and their eyes looked tired. They didn't look much like themselves at all anymore. "I will take you and return here when you are safe." She held the girls close and they disappeared.

"Glinda - you need Dorothy now. She's a public figure - and people are bound to recognize her. She's more famous than any of us. Bring her back - let her return be known all through out Oz. It's a good thing. But you're right. Keep Kay at the orphanage. It's a perfect place." Then jokingly she added "and don't tell me you dress your orphans in rags?"

"She's right" added Ellie. "Besides, you can say that Dorothy came back to find the lost Ruby Slippers. I bet nothing would make the Nome King more nervous..."

Glinda beamed back in, Dorothy in tow. "No, I don't dress them in rags! But that's what they usually come to me in. I dress them in pretty pink dresses, but I figured she'd be a little more recognizable that way."
She looked Dorothy over, "Miss Gale. Are you up to the challenge of becoming head public figure in order to bring Oz back to its former glory?"

"Head public figure?" Dorothy asked. That was a tall order. She wasn't sure if she was ready for it. After all, she had been thrust into the spotlight whether she would or no last time - and she hadn't really done anything that glorious.

"You've got to" said Ellie. "It'll be all right. They'll fawn over you just like they did last time. But now, when the time comes. you can set the record straight." Suddenly the adrenalin that had kicked in allowing Ellie to take charge began to wear off. She felt...scared. Had she done the right thing?
"What do you think they'll think? When they learn I've dissapeared?" She asked. She almost wished for a moment that she could go back to the orphanage with Kay. At least she sort of knew how to fit in there...

"I think they'll think just that. The general population will worry about you at Shiz. It will be some sort of mini-tradgedy that the wicked witch has struck again. I wouldn't worry Ellie." Her put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "It's only for a while. You and your mother will be helping from afar..."

"What should we do?" Said Ellie. "Knowing Mombie - she'll come looking for me. And Kay"

"We will have to hide you. We could always turn you green!" Glinda laughed. They needed a bit of comic relief. Sure, they needed answers, but laughter was of course the best cure for anything, wasn't it?

"Glinda you know as well as I do that you can't change someone's skin color." She laughed, and looked sadly at her mother. "Besides it wouldn't help." She sighed. "Well, it looks like I'll be playing the Damsel in Distress for a while. Oh well, anything to distract..."

Dorothy was nervous. What did they expect from her? There wasn't much she could do. Would her life be in danger like last time?

"It was a joke, Ellie. Anything to put a little smile on your face." She brushed her jaw with her finger. "I may not see that smile much for a while." Everyone she loved was in terrible danger now.
"Well, Dorothy. Would you like something a little more...queenly to wear?"

"Some Ozian shoes..." They appeared on her feet with a wave of Glinda's wand. "And a dress..." "Perhaps, we should do something with your hair...pigtails aren't exactly dignified." "And a touch of glitter for good measure." Glitter ran from Glinda's fingertips and gently sprinkled over Dorothy. She took a step back and looked over the finished product. "A masterpiece. Now, you are ready for that parade..."
