A small burst of white light filled the room as Taye and Ozma magically appeared. He rushed over to Claire and Tristan, kissing his wife gently and laying a hand on his son's shoulder.
"I'm sorry it took me so long," Taye said apologetically. "Ozma and I were discussing what I found out over the past couple of months. We think we might be on to something."

Ozma nodded. "Before I was..." She took a deep breath. It was still hard for her to think about. "...controlled... by Nessarose, I sent Taye on missions into Oz. I wanted to keep an eye on Ian... I didn't like the thought of our old friend stuck out in the wilderness with only one other soul for company.
"Taye soon noticed that Ian wasn't just sitting around, however. Mysterious robberies kept occurring in libraries all across Oz, and it quickly became obvious that Ian was behind it."
She sighed. "I don't remember much else. It wasn't long after discovering this that Nessarose took over my body, but... she must have found something of value in the missions."

"Nessarose kept sending me to spy in Ian," Taye explained. "I didn't know it, of course. But pretty soon I began to notice that Ian seemed to be looking for... something. I'm guessing some sort of book." He turned to Elphaba. "Maybe a book of magic... not as powerful as the Grimmerie, but containing magic of a different sort. Dark magic. And since Nessarose was so interested in Ian's progress... perhaps she was after that book as well."
He looked around at the room. There were a couple of people he didn't recognize... a blonde girl and a woman who looked about the same age as Glinda and Elphaba. But if they had been invited into his home, surely they could be trusted, right? He turned his attention back to the group. "What does everyone else think about it?"

Claire was so greatful to see Taye burst in. Her heart skipped a beat. "I was afraid you'd decided to strike out on your own again," she whispered to him, then listened patiently to both he and Ozma speak.
"Taye, I don't know your familiarity with Azarine, but Az.." she motioned toward her, "is a teacher at Shiz who is going to try her best to befriend Ian and find out any crucial information. We were also discussing Ellie and Kay as possible targets on Nessa's list. Ellie looking so much like her, having her position, being her neice....and Kay being the daughter of Boq..." Claire sighed. "And as for thoughts on Gayelette we've made no progress..."

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well," Taye said, nodding politely to Azarine. His mind was distracted by other matters, however.
"Well... what do we do now?" he asked the group grimly. "We can't just sit here, hiding away forever. We have to do something."

"If you have a plan of action, let's hear it!" Claire retorted. She was frustrated, angry. She wanted her little girl back. "We've all been trying to figure out some sort of plan and seem to only dredge up fear. I mean we have passive things...ways to tell one another if Nessa were to take hold of one of us...and Az...even that book...I guess we could start looking for that book...but..." she sighed, clenching her dress in her fists. "I want to just tear off to the Nome Castle, hit Ian square across the face and give him a real piece of my mind for manipulating Gayelette...." she shook her head, "but I can't. I know I can't. So if you have a constructive idea...let's have it."

"I don't even know if we could get into the Nome Kingdom if we wanted to. When I was spying on Ian for Ozma, I saw that he had all kinds of protection... magical barriers and the like..." He sighed. "If we had a way to make him come to us, then maybe we could make a little more headway."
