"I can try that. I managed to get through to him in order to schedule a meeting. I should be going in soon, and I could possible convince him to come for a visit at Shiz."

"I...I wonder if there might be someway to us me..." said Ellie, realizing that what she was about to say was VERY dangerous. "I mean, I know Nessarose is curious about me, and Ian still cares for me somewhat... I just don't know what I would do. I doubt he would believe I was on his side, and even if i did make him believe it, when he found out I'd betrayed him - it would destroy him."

"I don't think it would destroy him, not anymore. He has his lover now," Claire replied cattily. She'd tried to be civil about the whole Ian thing, but he'd gone from friend to foe in an instant. He'd proclaimed himself the evil warlock and abandoned all he ever knew and held dear in a matter of moments. He'd turned his back, become a traitor, and if that wasn't bad enough, he'd taken her daughter. Claire felt justified in being more than mildly upset with him.

"But I couldn't manipulate him like that..." said Ellie

"Besides that, it could be really dangerous," Taye said, frowning. "What if something happened again? You were already turned into an ornament... possession wouldn't be much of a step up. Besides that, Ian could want some kind of revenge..."

"But that's just it...I'm immortal now..." she said, trying not to think of the fact that she could still feel pain.

"I'll have to agree with the others. It's not wise for you to try anything with Ian. If I were going to volunteer anyone I'd say either Claire and Taye...considering Gayelette...but I think it's best to stick with Az for now. And as for Nessarose...well...we'll have to wait and see what happens with her. We need to keep up our defenses, but I'm not thinking there's much offensively we can do besides wait for more information. We don't know how it all works quite yet, and until we do, all of us should keep ourselves protected as best we can while we formulate a way to deal with her."

Ellie looked down at her ruby slippers, having almost forgotten about them in the chaos that had been going on. "She'll be coming after these" she said...

"We'll have to figure out something to do with them...hide them...keep them away from her...they are an enchanted object. Who knows what the magic would be able to do for her."

"It would be much more dangerous to do that. I'm the only one who can take them off - no one else can take them off unless I'm dead. And we all know there's no danger of that anytime soon..."

"If she inhabited your body though she could use you to take them off...it's basically the same principle." Claire replied feeling more and more antsy about the whole situation every moment.

"Yes, but that only aids her if she has a body. I'm not as worried about Nessarose getting a hold of them, as I am of them falling into Ian or Gayelette's hands..."

"In that case, we definitely can't risk using you to get close to Nessa or Ian. The risk would simply be too great." He folded his arms. "If anything, we need to provide you with adequate protection. It might not hurt to protect Claire or Tristan, too..." he added, eying his wife and son. There was little reason for anyone to come after them, but he wasn't about to take any chances with their safety.

"I agree. But I have a feeling Nessa's going to want to come after me first. Something about the shoes - she's inherantly tied to them. THeir magic might be what allowed her to come back in the first place. But honestly, I think Kay's in just as much trouble, and Boq - though in a different way.
I'll feel better having Az there."

"Well, I will be there Ellie. As long as I'm needed."
Az smiled at the girl. She could barely imagine how this must be for Ellie. Frightening, sure, but to what degree was Ellie fascinated as well? After all, Nessarose was part of her family, whether Ellie liked it or not. All Azarine could do was hope that she could be of some help. Granted, it would help her if Ian would finally set a day and time for their meeting, but she could wait as long as was necessary.
