"I don't know. It was like, when your powers went off, I felt mine inside me. " She let go and looked from herself to Ellie over and over in awe.

"There was once a legend..." Glinda began, thinking aloud. "That two would meet and mesh to become the greatest power Oz had ever seen. I used to think that..." she trailed, not allowing herself to finish the sentence but knowing that Ellie would know exactly what she meant to say. "May it is the two of you you..."

Ellie had never heard that legend... but she had always wondered... if there was Glinda the Good Witch of the North, Elphaba (once redeemed) the Good Witch of the West, and someday the Good Witches of the South and East... the four corners of OZ united...
"Who are your parents again?" Elphaba asked. She had remembered something about glass artisans. Ellie kept thinking of Turtle Heart - legend had it that he had been a famous Quadling Glass Blower, and that he was in fact the true father of Nessarose

Ellie had always dreamed about someday being the Good Witch of the West, but maybe, with her ancestry, between Glinda's connections in the Emerald City, and her Munchkin pedigree, and with Claire's possible Quadling connections... maybe it was possible... there had never been a good Witch of the South and East...

"Emmeline and Evertt Heart. My mother was gillikineese, my father was quadling, but we lived in the upper uplands my whole life. I consider myself gilikineese, even though i'm half quadling."

"Heart... as in Turtle Heart the famous glass blower?"
Ellie looked at Glinda. Glinda knew who Nessa's real father had been...

Suddenly it all made sense. Everett Heart was the brother of Turtle Heart, Elphaba's parents secret lover they shared. Claire Heart was first cousin to Nessarose Thropp.

"You were his neice...weren't you?" Glinda questioned. "I knew the family. I knew your family, and I never put two and two together until..." Glinda nodded and tried to keep her composure. "Of course! Your parents did all the glass work in the Emerald city! I see your father had many of the talents of his dearly departed brother."

That means Claire and I are second cousins, Ellie thought. Wow. If only she knew! She actually felt a little better knowing that she wasn't the only one with a "Wicked" pedigree, however slight Claire's was.
Maybe they could do what Elphie and Glinda couldn't. Join together and be popular and good together...

"yeah. I never met him. I heard he was a little earthy, though. He was a bit of a rover, whereas my father went to school here and met my mother. They made a great team. She had a natural interest and knack for glassblowing, and he helped perfect her talents."

Glinda looked to Ellie, and telepathically said, 'you know what this means. she is our missing link.'

"I was never very talented at glassblowing. I actually was interested in books, dresses, and sorcery. So here I am. In my...last year..." she sighed, sadly, "here at Shiz." She looked to Ellie and smiled, "but i'm confident that a great last year it will be."

"Well, that's a good thing. I'm glad Ellie has you." She smiled at the two of them, and was happy with the situation. "Ellie, I am happy to leave you in her care." She held her close and whispered in her ear, "if she finds out anything about you, I know plenty about her. The two of you are linked. You'll be fine." She squeezed her tight and let go, then moved to Claire. "I am so pleased to meet you, and even happier that Ellie has you." She hugged her tight too.
"Now, both of you, I will be sending someone to pick you up in exactly one week to come visit me in my new place in the Emerald City! We'll do some shopping! How's that sound?" She positively beamed. Then as quickly as she had come, Glinda bubbled right out of the room.

Ellie was estatic. Maybe for the first time ever. She was so happy she had Claire. She knew what this meant. Maybe they could do what Elphie and Glinda couldn't - be the greatest team Oz had ever had.
She just hoped that Claire didn't share Glinda's former obsession with power...

Claire was a little bewildered at everything that had just happened. Glinda Upland, her idol had magically appeared, been deemed her 'honorary aunt' and disappeared just as quickly. Ellie had just had another attack, and she had somehow singlehandedly stopped her. It was all almost too much to bear. Nothing made any sense any more. What did all of this mean?
