"This...this is unbelievable. She just said I have the potential to be something! You know, no one has ever honestly told me that I was going to make something of myself?" She just kept shaking her head.

"No one has ever told you that?" Ellie said. She had imagined Claire growing up showered with complements, with people telling her... well, that she would be the next Glinda the Good."
"This is all so... sudden." Ellie said. Secretly though, she couldn't wait to go to the emerald city.
"I... I don't think we should tell Mombie about this"

"I wasn't planning on it." She giggled and hugged Ellie tight. "Yesterday I thought I had my life planned out, and I knew exactly what was going to happen. And then today you walk in and change all that....thank you." It was the most sincere she'd ever been. There was something in her that was just drawn out by Ellie. Maybe it was her own purity, or maybe it was their desity that had been predetermined centuries before that on some level let her know this would be her confidant for all the years to come.

Ellie did something she had almost never done before. She laughed out right. She felt the same way about Claire for some reason.
But there was something holding her back. She still couldn't tell her the truth about her parents. She didn't even really know the whole truth herself...

Claire laid down on her bed, her hands behind her head, elbows bowed out, eyes shut. "Have you ever just sat back, closed your eyes and imagined it? The future?" She smiled, imagining her life one day. "I'm going to live in a big, white, two story house, with four extra rooms so people can come and visit. I'll have a husband who tells me he loves me every day and three beautiful children: two girls and a boy. One little girl has blonde girls, and one has red, and my little boy is a dirty blonde, almost brunette. And we live just outside the Emerald City, so I can go in to work every day but never be too far away...." She sighed and opened her eyes, looking back at Ellie. "What do you see when you close your eyes and dream?"

"I...I don't really know..." Ellie said. She had always felt, so isolated. "I guess... well, I always dreamed of one day being a good witch like Glinda. Maybe even the good witch of the west - since that's where I'm from. And.. I'd also like to be the next Royal Historian of Oz. That's how I got my last name actually. At the orphanage, everyone's given a name - and their last name is usually after some famous person. I always loved literature and history, so they named me Baum after the Royal Historian L. Frank Baum. And I... I guess... I'd like to get married someday." Ellie thought... she had always been worried, she knew what had happened with her mother and father. Romance always seemed to get you in trouble.
"I want a family" was all she said.

Ellie seemed so sad on that subject. Maybe it was not growing up with her own family, but Claire's parents who had been mostly absent from her life only made her want a family of her own all the more. "I'm sorry..." she whispered, feeling bad for bringing it up.

"No, it's all right. Anyways, I sort of do - now with Glinda... and you. But my biggest dream is to be a Good Witch someday..."

She smiled, Ellie had just said they were family. Family? I guess friends could be family, in some ways. It was nice to know she thought of her as such.

Ellie was just a little worried whether or not this deep friendship would last. Claire seemed to be the most popular girl on campus. She couldn't help thinking that her friends wouldn't really want her hanging around with...someone like her...

Claire was certainly ready for classes to start back. She was anxious to see how Ellie would react around other people, especially with her around. She figured it would make things a little easier if she were to introduce her. Her popularity certianly wouldn't be affected for the worse with her as an influence. "So who have you met on campus...Mombie....Kye...who else?"

"Not too many people. I met that sweet girl... Kay? Mombie's servant. She seemed very sweet, poor thing..."
Maybe Glinda was right. After all, with her word, maybe she'd be popular before people even met her. Maybe, for now, it was just a matter of not messing up peoples imaginings of her, instead of feeling like she needed to prove herself. Besides, it seemed like most of her classes would be just with Claire and Mombie. And while she wasn't looking forward to being with Mombie for so long, at least it meant she wouldn't have to interact with a lot of people.

"She is nice. I don't see her much. Mombie keeps her pinned up..." She sighed. She'd felt bad for Kay but had never known what to do. It was better than how she'd been raised, or so the whole school had been told.
"Did you talk to her at all?" Claire inquired. She did have a major soft spot in her heart, she just didn't always know how to follow through with that compassion.

"A bit... she's a spitfire, but not very talkative" Ellie said. "It's difficult to know what to do... what with MOmbie always watching..."

"That's true." Claire closed her eyes and yawned. "It sure has been a long day....a full day..."
