"Well that's not good, and it's not bad" said Elphie. "I think the way in is going to be through Nessarose - if only we knew her plans and, which body she's taken over. She'll be more than happy to see you I'm sure of it. Wait..."
Elphaba thought a moment and then, trying to whisper so as not to broadcast her thought to Glinda...
"If there's the possibility that Kay now thinks Nessa's her mother - she'll love you to. Maybe the way in is through Kay... maybe you can even convince her to come back here..."

Tristan took a shakey step forward, teeth chattering and knees clacking and piped up very slowly. "Kay and I...well we...." he trembled. "shared a very special connection...I think. And if she....were going to--come back, that is--I...I think that..." he shuddered. "Maybe I could be of...of some sort of...help...maybe..." he was so pale. He looked as though he were going to faint right there on the floor. "..She...she may not know me...or anything...being her--" he gulped, "new--self--but I still think...I'm worth a shot...Ma'am."

Elphaba trusted Tristan, but she was worried. After all, he was still very young. She didn't want his name to be added to the list of those who had been hurt by this whole affar. She looked towards Elphaba, Glinda, and Claire before responding, wanting to know what they had to say about this.

He was supposed to protect her before, and he hadn't. It made Glinda a little less trusting in his abilities. But his words were so reminiscent of Boq's words to her so many years ago. He loved her. He really loved her. "You bring my daughter back..." her voice was harsh, but her heart told her he would.

"I agree with both of you" Elphaba said diplomatically. "I don't want to put Claire, or Glinda through any more heart ache. But when it comes down to it, Tristan might be the only thing that Kay remembers... and since he's someone that neither Nessa or Ian will have any interest in, he might be our only chance..."

There was a sudden pounding on the door. "Miss Elphaba! Miss Elphaba! Please let me in! I... I know what's going on with Kay!"
Polly was almost screaming - unusual for her. But fortunate for the group, Mombie had forgotten to remove certain secret listening devices from Polly's posession before the Nome battle, so Polly still had ways of listening in on the goings on in the Nome Kingdom. She just hoped it would be a while before Ian found out...

Polly rushed to catch her breath.
"I saw... Mombie never took her listening devices away from me before the battle with the Nome King, so I still have a way of evesdropping on the Nome Kingdom..." she said, hoping that finally she wouldn't be overlooked as someone who could help...
"I saw Kay, I've been watching. I say Gaylette and Skylar arrive with her, and then I saw...that horrible spell..."

"Nessarose was speaking through Gaylette. And that spell - we'll..." Polly went on a little ashamed to have to be the one to tell Glinda. "It's like she became a different person. She DID. She doesn't even look the same. She actually, looks a lot like you Miss Elphaba, only without the green skin. And a little like Ellie - only with deep chestnut hair. And not quite as frail... and she started crying, and calling Nessa her mother, and saying she wanted her back..."
