"If he seems aloof of cold, don't be alarmed. Someone with that much power sometimes can't waste energy on emotions. He is kind though. He just doesn't always show it. And he may be angry I brought people here...because i didn't exactly ask permission. But I know he wants to help me, and he'll want to help you too. He's good...only a little intimidating, you know?"

Kay interrupted their diversion getting back to the point... "I don't WANT to change. I love my parents, and I like being just the way I am. YOU'RE the Wicked ones! Thinking you know everything! Taking matters into your own hands. You're just like the Wizard..."

"I shouldn't have helped you! You're just like everyone else! You hate me and blame me and call me wicked for nothing! They call you good for being like your mother, the good witch. My mother's a good witch, and I tried to be like her and they called me wicked and threw me in jail!" she screamed angrily, her eyes flaming. "They said I killed my father! I had a real father! One who created me! At least I got here the natural way. You're just a spell! I had a father, and they said I killed him. I'd never kill my father! I loved him!" tears were pouring down her face. "I loved him.."

"I LOVE MY FATHER TOO! I don't know if I'm good - I don't pretend to be, no matter what anyone else says. And NO you shouldn't have "helped" me! I want my daddy! I want my mom!" Kay broke down in sobs.

"Fine! Be a baby! You're supposed to be younger than I am! You're not even six months old!" she kicked her. "Cry for your mommy! She won't come! No one can hear you scream here!"

"Hey... stop it! Both of you!" Skylar said, running in-between Kay and Gayelette. "Gayelette... stop it. Don't kick her... didn't you want to save her?" He gave her an imploring look. "You're not wicked, I can tell. But act like it. Just because people call you something doesn't mean you have to submit to it. Kicking little girls isn't the way to come off as good, and you know it."
This entire situation was so confusing. There were too many mixed and shattered emotions floating around... Skylar was having trouble keeping up. Still, he had to at least try.
He bent down to Kay, helping her off the floor. "We're not wicked. Everyone just... calm down."

But Kay wouldn't let him touch her. She had no words now. She just sobbed and sobbed...
She finally managed to get out, in a whisper...
"What you're saying about Gaylette... that she's not really wicked, but people call her that... that's what happened to Elphaba. Don't you see that you're just doing to Elphaba what you're accusing her of doing to Gaylette?"

"Then you should understand! You should understand! Nobody gave me a shot! And I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!"

"Gayelette - you were POSESSED by a spirit! Did you even talk to your parents after they found out? They were devistated! What would you have done in their place? If you truly believed your mother had killed your father. BELIEVED it. There was proof? We know you didn't do it. Everyone's always been on your side, but it's you who never gave us a chance. You were too busy trying to manipulate everything. Look now! You took me away from everything I love. NOW for better or worse you HAVE committed a wicked act. Would you add more to the list?"

"You don't know anything!" she screamed back, covering her ears.

"Yes I do. You just don't want to hear. You don't know anything - you don't know the truth. And I think you've been lying to me. You didn't capture me to rescue me, I think you did it to punish my parents - for something you think they did to you..."

"Shut up! Stop talking!" she shook her head, cowering down on the floor, still covering her ears. "Stop! Stop! Stop!"

Skylar stared down at the trembling girl, stricken. All of this was so much to absorb. For a moment there, Gayelette had indeed looked a little... well, wicked. But now all he saw was a girl tormented by her own demons... refusing to listen to anyone. Some of the things Kay was saying Gayelette didn't even protest, like her not kidnapping Kay in order to help her, and Elphaba being misunderstood...
Could Gayelette have lied?
Somehow he didn't feel angry. He knelt down to Gayelette carefully, then held up a hand to quiet Kay.
"Hey... calm down," he said quietly. "No one's accusing you of anything. Just... relax." He paused, then even more quietly added "No matter what you've done, you don't seem like a wicked person to me." No more wicked than him, at least. Using some book was hardly a crime.

Nessarose thought frantically from within Gayelette, wondering what in Oz to do. How did Kay know about Gayelette's possession? But of course... her meddlesome mother. Nessarose had so far been successful in manipulating Gayelette's thoughts, but Kay seemed to be breaking through somehow. She admired this ability in her daughter -- as she was even now beginning to think of Kay -- but she couldn't keep meddling if their plans were to go through. She couldn't waste any more time.
It was dangerous, and she had wanted to wait until the warlock was here before she attempted the spell, but now was the time to act. Nessarose's direct connection with Gayelette would hopefully make up for any lack of power on the young witch's part... but she had proved herself well enough in the past. She could only hope.
"It doesn't matter what you say," she forced Gayelette to say suddenly. "Your mother has been lying! Glinda isn't who she says she is! She's done terrible things! I'm going to fix the damage she's done."
Nessarose began to whisper through Gayelette quietly, reciting the spell that she had learned from Ozma's memories. Nessarose had the ability to see a person's memories exactly as they were, and had thus been able to see the spell exactly as Glinda had used it through Ozma's mind. With a few adjustments... she would hopefully be able to change the overall effect of the spell.
A brilliant light filled the chamber as Nessarose twisted the spell that Glinda had used to create Kay. Soon the spell would be such that it wasn't Glinda that was Kay's mother... but Nessarose herself.
Nessarose and Boq, proud parents of an outstanding daughter... just as it should have been.
Just as it would be.

A bright light filled the room, surrounding Kay. The spell was working, but it wasn't the clean, elegant spell that Elphaba had used , this was more, jerky, rough, and harsh. Kay cried out as every memory she had was violently ripped from her mind. Her screams echoed throughout the chamber.
In a moment, everything became silent. The small girl lay on the floor, not moving. But she was...different....changed.... her gold hair, with a gentle curl had been replaced by a rich brunette wave. her frailness was a bit more...sturdy...and her green eyes had deepened to a piercing, almost fiery blue...
